Where was Tzipi in the summer of 2006?
September 22nd, 2008 . by ImshinEveryone connected to the failure of that war in Lebanon is gone now. Olmert was the last.
Or was he?
We’re told that these days the media war is just as important as the battle on the ground. And in the war in Lebanon in the summer of 2006 the battle of the words was Tzipi’s responsibility, as Foreign Minister.
So where was she? Why didn’t we see her on the BBC? Why didn’t we see her on Sky News? (Why was Bibi Netanyahu rushing around all over the place doing her job?)
Why did we do such a sh$%%y job of selling the war?
Two possible reasons, neither of them pretty:
A. She’s useless. Sounds good, looks impressive, lot’s of personality, no substance.
B. She realized that this was war was going to destroy any politician connected to it in the Israeli public’s mind, and made sure to keep well out of sight. In other words, she sold us out for political reasons.
Whichever one it is, I don’t trust her and don’t want her as prime minister.
This is the only real thing I know about her. The one job I know for a fact she had to do, and very noticeable didn’t. Although no one seems to remember this.
(She was also Justice Minister for a short while and she didn’t do anything in that capacity either, but she had the excuse that she was just filling in.)
As I write this Bish says Terrorist Attack in Jerusalem.
Update: Both Adloyada and Treppenwitz reminded me that Livni resurfaced miraculously at the end of the war, just in time to promote UN Security Council resolution 1701. Trep says
Just wanted to chime in that Livni’s absence from sight during the
Lebanon war worries me far less than her actual role in selling (i.e
ramming down our throats) UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In
that she did quite the sales job.She assured us that 1701 was good for Israel and that we should accept
it… but let’s have a look:The Resolution demanded:
- Full cessation of hostilities (something that was in Hezbollah’s
interest… not ours).
- Israel to withdraw all of its forces from Lebanon in parallel with
Lebanese and UNIFIL soldiers deploying throughout the South (again,
not in our interest, and a move which placed our security in the hands
of a body that is not empowered to confront Hezbollah)
- Hezbollah to be disarmed (~cough, cough~)
- Full control of Lebanon by the government of Lebanon (~more coughing~)
- No paramilitary forces, including (and implying) Hezbollah, will be
south of the Litani River (~open weeping now~).The Resolution at the same time also emphasizes:
- The need to address urgently the unconditional release of the
abducted Israeli soldiers, that have given rise to the current crisis.
(well, I guess we did eventually get them back. For a price. Dead)Nice work Tzipi!
